History of Dublin Volunteer Fire Co.

Est. 1915

1915
First volunteer fire company of Dublin was organized. Equipment consisted of a chemical wagon and cans donated by Doylestown Fire Company
1920
Purchased first motorized apparatus, a Ford Hale Triple Combination Pumper, which was in service until 1930.
1921
Purchased International Chemical and Hose Truck
1922
Planned construction of a firehouse and purchased land on Maple Avenue
1923
July 12- voted to construct a 35 x 75 foot one-story concrete block building
1924
Siren sounded for first time on New Years Eve. Firehouse Dedicated at a public service on May 31. Total cost of land and building was $7,200. Purchased used Simplex pumper from Royersford Fire Co. for $500.
1932
Purchased new Quadruple Pumper for $7500. Chief Crouthamel reported 31 fires, 17 of which were barn fires.
1938
Purchased a light system for emergency lighting at fire scenes. Won first place in a Sellersville parade for best equipped truck.
1942
Basement of firehouse was renovated as a recreation room
1943
Community ambulance service was established free to all residents. First Ambulance was a 1941 Chrysler New Yorker
1946
A major fire destroyed Stover's Mill in Blooming Glen. The fire was fought by 150 men and destroyed the mill and a 2 story barn
1947
International K-8 Fire Truck put in service. Firehouse changed to overhead doors.
1952
Dodge Power wagon was purchased. This vehicle is still owned by the Dublin Fire Co.
1954
An addition to serve as a banquet hall is built onto the firehouse for $121,000. 1953 Chrysler New Yorker Ambulance placed in service.
1955
First 2-Way radio communication purchased, a base unit at the firehouse and a portable unit in the chief's car.
1956
Gave old ambulance to Plumsteadville Fire Co. to start their ambulance service.
1958
Placed in service a 1957 International Ladder Truck, with a 50 ft. electric ladder and a 750 GPM pump, for $18,000. Lloyd Crouthamel resigns as chief having served the company for 37 years.
1963
Purchased new Oldsmobile Ambulance.
1964
Placed in service a GMC Chiefs truck with utility body.
1965
Dublin Fire Company celebrates 50th Anniversary
1966
Purchased GMC High Pressure Pumper w/ 1000 gal. tank.
1967
Fire Company purchased 30 Instalert Radios for use in home alerting of firemen.
1968
10 Acres at Route 313 and Rickert Rd. Donated to fire company by Mr. & Mrs. Samual Levittes.
1969
Take delivery of a GMC 750 GPM Pumper
1972
Approximately 850 man hours spent in relief work of flood stricken areas of Wilkes-Barre and Norristown as a result of Hurricane Agnes. First Carnival held at current site of 313 and Rickert Rd.
1973
A bid of $181,000 from Branch Valley Associates was accepted for the construction of a new firehouse on Rickert Rd. Work began in August.
1974
Dedication of new (and current) firehouse on August 10, complete with a brass pole from a New York City firehouse. Became member of Tri-Valley Cascade Association.
 
1975
Purchased a 1961 Mack Tractor and a 5250 gallon tank trailer from Swann Oil Co. This was used for a tanker until 1994.
 
1976
Created a separate Ambulance Corp to operate within the fire company and purchased a new Dodge Ambulance.
1977
Emergency dispatching turned over to Bucks County. Until this time, firement answered incoming calls in their homes and places of business.
1983
Ladder truck replaced with a new 75 ft. Pirsch Aerial with a 1000 GPM Pump. Also purchased a new Ford Ambulance. Held a parade to house both vehicles in September. Ladder Truck is still in service as Ladder 23.
1985
On October 15, a major fire destroys the Farm Bureau Feed Mill in Dublin. The fire was discovered at 1:36 AM and required 11 companies and 150 men to extinguish.
1986
Purchased a New 1250 GPM Pumper. (Engine 23-1)
 
1990
Purchased a New Pierce Rescue Truck for vehicle rescues and firefighting. Parade was held for housing of new truck. (Rescue 23)
1994
Purchased New 3500 Gallon 4-Guys / Peterbuilt Tanker and placed into service. (Tanker 23) Old Mack truck was kept as an antique.
late 90's
Bucks County upgrades to a Digital Communications System, requiring purchase of all new portable and mobile radios for all emergency departments in the county.
1999
Purchased new Engine, a 1999 KME Pumper with a 1000 gallon tank and a 1750 GPM pump. (Engine 23) The vehicle it replaced was donated to a fire company in Kentucky.
2000
Dublin Fire Co. Celebrates it's 85th Anniversary.
2003
Fire Company ceases Ambulance service on Dec. 31 due to financial reasons.
2005
Dublin Fire Co. Celebrates 90th Anniversary. A 2005 Ford Brush Truck is purchased to replace Field 23, which was 41 years old. www.dublinfireco.org launched in early 2005.
 
Present

Dublin Fire Company continues to serve Dublin Borough, Bedminster, Hilltown and New Britain Townships and Upper Bucks County as an all-volunteer organization. We have 6 modern pieces of apparatus and many dedicated members who proudly serve the community. The population of our service area continues to grow.
